Classes

Descriptions of various classes are listed below with names of instructors in parenthesis following descriptions.
 
Music Composition/Technology-intermediate & advanced pianists only (must have two (2) years piano experience). Students will learn to compose melody, rhythm, harmony, orchestration, jazz, improvisation, and music notation using relevant computer software applications. (White/Leach/Ley)


Utilizing Music Technology in a Professional Recording Environment- Functional knowledge of music theory, intermediate level of keyboard or guitar skills, and intermediate knowledge and function in computer skills (preferably OSX).  Utilize a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) to create a professional recording project.  (Software Program focus will be on Avid Pro Tools). Students will learn preparation for the recording, song selection and preparation, pre-production and actualization of the recording, engineering the sonics, editing the recorded audio, finalization of the recording, mixing, mastering, applying a professional attitude and work ethic to achieve success in a recording career.

 

Intermediate/Advanced Piano-students have private lessons and attend master classes and lectures. Students should prepare one memorized piece and one piece in note-learning stage. (Leach/Jones)

 

Intermediate/Advanced Music Topics - includes history, theory, improvisation (jazz) and related videos. (Leach)

 

Beginning Piano - Students with no piano training will learn rhythmic values, keyboard topography, correct hand position, and note reading. They will also have the equivalent of five (5) weeks of piano lessons. (Vanessa)


Voice Lessons - Students will learn correct vocal technique and interpretation. They should prepare one song and bring the music to the song to class. (Walker)

 
Beginning Guitar -Classical Guitar - For beginners and intermediates-intermediate students should bring a guitar. (Leon M. Brown)

Theatre Drama Production -  Summer 2010 production will be "The Magical Land of Oz" by Tim Kelly.  Auditions for roles will be held one week before camp begins around July 19, 2010 week. (V. Walker)
 
 
Painting/Drawing - students will learn basic drawing and color skills using acrylic paint to create vivid pictures on canvas for display at the Spectacular celebration. Students are to bring three (3) brushes - detail, .5 inch, and one less than 1 inch. Students need an old shirt to paint in and cup for brush cleaning. (P. Ley and M. Henderson)
 
Digital Photography – teaches basic photography skills to students. Students will learn to enhance their picture taking abilities. Students must bring their own digital camera. Minimum of six (6) students needed for class.  (M. Henderson)
